Transparency in HVAC Pricing
HVAC Cost Buddy was created to solve one massive problem in the home services industry: homeowners have no idea what a fair HVAC installation price is, and contractors know it.
Why We Started HVAC Cost Buddy
Replacing a central air conditioner or furnace is one of the largest investments a homeowner will make, second only to roof replacements or kitchen remodels. Yet, the pricing for HVAC equipment remains shrouded in mystery.
Most homeowners wait for a contractor to visit their house, spend an hour in the attic, and finally hand them a quote for $9,000—without ever explaining why it costs that much. This power imbalance leads to overcharging, high-pressure sales tactics, and immense stress.
We built HVAC Cost Buddy to flip the script. We believe homeowners deserve to know the wholesale cost of equipment, the local labor rates, and the permit fees before they pick up the phone to call a contractor.

How Our Calculators Work
Our pricing engine doesn't just make up numbers. We aggregate real-world data to build our estimates.
Equipment Baselines
We track average wholesale distributor costs for 14 SEER2 to 20 SEER2 systems across all major tonnages (1.5 to 5 tons).
Regional Labor Rates
HVAC labor rates vary wildly. A 3-ton install in California costs more than in Ohio. We factor in local cost-of-living indices for all 50 states.
Permits & Materials
We include standard municipality permit fees, copper line sets, new R-454B refrigerant, and the disposal of your old unit.
Our Commitment to You
Unlike many "cost estimator" websites, we do not sell your information to contractors. We do not require your email address or phone number to view our pricing data.
Our tool is 100% free, anonymous, and designed to be used as a negotiation tool. If a contractor quotes you a price that is wildly different from our calculator, we want you to have the data to ask them exactly where the markup is.
Stop Guessing. Start Calculating.
Don't walk into a contractor meeting blind. Get an accurate, locally-adjusted HVAC estimate in seconds so you know exactly what you should be paying.
